ปรากสำหรับผู้พิการหรือผู้ใช้รถเข็น

Prague is wheelchair accessible,ปรากนั้นเป็นเมืองที่ผู้พิการที่ใช้รถเข็นก็สามารถเข้าถึงปรากได้ แต่สิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกต่างๆยังค่อนข้างจำกัด เริ่มมีการปรับปรุงพื้นผิวจราจรให้รองรับผู้ใช้รถเข็น มาตั้งแต่ปี 1960 โดยเริ่มทำตามแนวรถรางมาก่อน และตามเส้นทางไปยังสถานีรถบัสเริ่มทำในปี 1980 โดยเส้นทางที่ไปยังรถไฟใต้ดินในปรากจะดีกว่าเส้นทางอื่น แม้ในขณะจะยังไม่เสร็จสมบูรณ์ดี(ยังไม่รองรับทุกสถานี ดูตามรายชื่อสถานีด้านล่าง) โดยทางการขนส่งได้ตัดสินใจที่จะเตรียมรายชื่อของเส้นทางการขนส่งสาธารณะในปรากให้มีการรองรับรถเข็น เพิ่มขี้นจากเดิม เพื่อให้การเดินทางในปรากสะดวกและง่ายยิ่งขี้น

ปรุงปรากนั้นมีประวัติศาสตร์ที่ยาวนานกว่าหนึ่งพันปี ทุกอย่างเริ่มต้นได้อย่างไร และเมื่อใด ? ใครคือพระมหากษัตริย์เช็กพระองค์แรก? คำตอบของคำถามทั้งหมดนี้สามารถพบได้ในสรุปสั้นๆด้านล่างนี้ :

ศตวรรษที่ 8 ชนเผ่าเช็กได้เริ่มลงหลักปักฐานอาศัย ในอาณาเขตของกลางโบฮีเมีย และสร้างVysehrad ขี้นบนฝั่งขวา ของแม่น้ำ Vltava.
ประมาณ ปี 870: ก่อตั้งปราสาทปราก Prague Castle.
ปี 921 : Wenceslas ได้กลายเป็นเจ้าชายของโบฮีเมีย
ประมาณ ปี 925: ก่อตั้งวิหาร St. Vitus Cathedral ในบริเวณปราสาทปราก

The Czech Republic can take pride in the very rich historical heritage. To describe even basic events from history would fill many pages and this booklet can not absorb it at all. The Czech Republic is well known as a land of beer. Tens of Czech breweries contribute to the world primacy of the highest beer consumption converted for each inhabitant , babies included. But not only the beer is the main beauty of our republic. Green lowlands, picturesque highlands and border mountains create this land very pleasant for living. Plenty of castles, ruins and historical towns centers penetrate this country with history. Our Prague castle, for example, is the biggest castle for the ruler in the world. The function of the castle has not changed up to now. It is the seat of Czech president.

And if you enjoy football you will have a perfect opportunity to do this sport. Next to football and hockey, You should try, learn or enjoy other sports such as volleyball, squash, jogging, climbing, Frisbee, swimming, tennis, aerobic, tourism, cycling which are famous as well. Tourism is very frequented in here. People enjoy traveling in mountains and walking through the country. We have close-knit system of paths marked with the color symbols across all country. Are you tired of traveling? You can always find a pub in every little village. In every pub you can find tasty beer of various brand names. Naturally, better beer is in the towns and the best in the brewery. The cradle of the beer is considered Pilsen (Plzeň),where famous Pilner-Urquell is made. Many people think that only Czech evening amusement is drinking in pubs. It is generally true, but Czech people understand beer as traditional vitamin beverage. In the middle ages it was normal to drink beer in the pub. The food usually took place as a secondary order.

Music clubs in Prague

Prague, mother of many well known musicians, pulsates wildly with all night and day musical life for many centuries. So if you want to drink from its musical vein, get dressed and insert coin into one or more Prague’s music club. It doesn’t depend of what music do you like – everyone would be satisfied, even if you are weird dressed decadent avant-garde experimentalist, haired rocker, dancefloor queen, lover of old classical ages, all time smoking jazzman or just a man who wants only to sit in some café bar, doesn’t matter how it is named, drink the best wine and listen to tango. And of course there are some open-air festivals too.
As i said, there are various clubs. Generally they are opened from afternoon till the morning, but it’ll be foolish to expect classical concert-hall opened long after the finishing of concert. In this case you’ll have to switch the pub, as always. Dance clubs close their gates in the morning and common rock club at the same time, if you find it in the city centre , but much far from the downtown you are, much earlier club closes.

When there is no live production at the day you’re visiting the club, then there is no entrance fee. In the other case prize of entrance fee depends on the size of name of a band or dj or concert. Sometimes the fee is similar for all artist – all nights – the case of a lot of dance clubs. Prizes of drinks and food depends on how ‘mainstreamish’ the club is – you could find really cheap prizes in some underground club in industrial quarters of Prague, even cheaper than in common non-music pub in downtown.
People who visits the clubs are various – but i think that you could realize common visitor of particular club on your own, because it is same as anywhere in the world.
Every club has its own spirit; its own manner and unique decorations, so don’t be coward to visit places, where other music than you usually listen to is sounding – easily it could happen that you would miss some true jewels.

Talking about stadiums, we can’t do otherwise, than to start with the Great Strahov Stadium (Strahovský stadion in Czech) which is a stadium in the Strahov district of Prague. It was the largest stadium in the world and it is the second largest sports facility worldwide after the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, seating around 220,000. The stadium is also special in the respect we in prague.net look at it from our office windows.
An important and very large venue is the O2 Arena; one of the most modern multi-functional arenas in Europe. The venue for sports, culture, entertainment, exhibits, fairs, and other European events. The idea of building such a huge arena in the country like the Czech Republic came after the “golden era” of Czech ice hockey: winning 4 gold medals in a row in 2003. O2 Arena is the most modern multipurpose stadium in Easter Europe which means, apart from other things, up to 1,500,000 visitors a year, a capacity for 18,000 spectators, 2,460 Club and Luxury seats, 66 Skyboxes, 4 Party Boxes, and 2,900 places in bars, restaurants and cafés. It is quite nicer than the other one,

T-Mobile Arena, which is on the contrary quite historical; the building of Strojnicky palac was finished in 1907, a venue for exhibitions and fairs, giving the foundations for the present stadium. Primarily, it is used for ice hockey, it is the venue of the HC Sparta Prague but it is also often used for music concerts. T-Mobile Arena opened in 1962 as Sportovní hala and can hold up to 12,950 people. Also, every year it is the venue of a very prestigious synchronized skating competition.

A very beautiful and very brand new stadium, having no competition in quality and friendliness, is the Eden Stadium. There are two huge screens, 14 stances with refreshments, 45 luxurious skyboxes, a hotel and a few restaurants. The Architect Martin Vokaty, creator of O2 Arena evaluates it as a piece of quality, clean architecture’. As opening of O2 Arena pushed the hockey culture forward, the Slavia stadium have similar effect for football.

And finally,

the AXA Arena, also known as Sparta Stadium, opened in 1917 and holds 20,854 people. Formerly known as the Letna Stadium (Letensky stadion) and as the Toyota Arena, it is now named after its sponsor, AXA, and combines history with evolution. Some really nice football matches have taken place there over those 100 years.

Famous People and Czech and Prague patriots

The Czech Republic, regardless of its small size, is surprisingly rich in interesting characters. Czechs are all around the world, bringing ideas, scoring goals, or distributing beauty.
This part of our web doesn’t try to be an encyclopedia of famous people, it just brings in some selected characters, who somehow got into world consciousness for something they did. Czech are always outnumbered, but never defeated.
Who are the people the world talks about?
Let us start with the Miss World of 2006, Tatana Kucharova. But there are many other beauties, like Eva Herzigova, Petra Nemcova, Tereza Maxova, Ivana Trump. But beauty is not a privilege of top-models in the Czech Republic; the country is sometimes said to have the most beautiful girls in the world.
Musicians; one Czech saying, roughly translated, goes: every Czech is a musician. Americans have a good consciousness of the Bohemian composer Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904), the author of Slavonic Dances and of the symphony From the New World. The others would be Bedrich Smetana, Leos Janacek or Zdenek Fibich.
Czech writers are no less renown. The famous Jewish writer Franz Kafka (1883-1924), even when wrote in German, spent most of his life in Prague. Famous if for his works Metamorphosis, The Trial or The Castle. The Czech writer Josef Capek invented the word robot, in his play RUR. Living in France, one of the best contemporary authors Milan Kundera (1929) gained his renown by his novels The Unbearable Lightness of Being and Immortality.
Sportsmen from the Czech republic excel especially in football and ice hockey teams. The best hockey players are Jaromir Jagr (1972), playing attack in the NHL and goalkeeper Dominik Hasek (1965) who helped the Czech team to get the Olympic Gold in Nagano. The football player Petr Cech was two times awarded the Best Goalkeeper of the UEFA Champions League.
There are many others, we also like to take pride we had Vaclav Havel (1936) as our president – Vaclav Havel used to be a spiritual leader of the dissidents during the communist regime, after the Velvet Revolution he became the leader of the nation for 13 years. He stays a well known dramatist, essayist, philosopher, and overall humanist person, who is popular in the Czech Republic and abroad as well.

A few more days in and around Prague

4th day: Karlovy Vary

Go West to a one day trip to Karlovy Vary, one of Czech Republic finest spas. Have a taste of the local hot mineral springs and enjoy the walk along the river Teplá (Warm), the beautifully coloured parks and richly decorated hotels and buildings.

5th day: Terezin and Prague

For the first half a day take a trip to Terezin, the biggest Concentration Camp built by the Nazi regime in the Czech Republic. Pay your tribute to the memory of the thousands of innocent people tortured

and murdered there during the second WW.
Lunch can be arranged in Terezin, at one of the restaurants built nearby the Memorial especially for incoming tourists.
For the evening set out to Prague again, for a pleasant walk in the evening. For inspiration, try the second part of the 1 day itinerary, that is start at the Old Town Square, find your way through the “Royal Route”the-royal-route to the Charles Bridge, climb up the hill taking Nerudova Street and unveil the mystery of the Prague Castle by night.

6th day: Konopiste and Karlstejn

On this day we recommend a trip to two of the Czech republic most know castles. Some tour agencies offer this “combined” tour in one single day, but if you think it would be too tiresome and you would prefer to divide it into two different days and enjoy another nice evening in Prague instead, you can opt to visit each castle at its time.
Suggestion:

one day to Karlstejn and the rest of the day late snack in Prague and sunset at Vysehrad
second day to Konopiste and the rest of the day in Prague, on the Petrin Hill or another nice park.

Where to go and what to see in 3 days in Prague

1 day itinerary

If you have just one day in Prague (that’s a pity, but if you can’t do anything about it, at least something is better than anything, isn’t it?).
I am not a morning person, so the itinerary below started rather closer to noon time than early morning.:-)
Before all, charge your “batteries” with a tasteful breakfast, without exaggerating it, or you won’t be able to walk a step. Start where the Royal Route starts, that is in front of the Municpal House and continue as follows

Celetna Street: Powder Tower (No.14 on the map), Municipal House, Old Town Square (No 11)
Astronomical Clock (No 12) and the Church of Our Lady before the Tyn (No 13)
Climb the Old town city hall Tower (No 12), at the Orloj (Astronomical Clock)
Follow the Silver Line to the Charles Bridge through the narrow streets loaded with souvenir shops
If you are really a fan of towers, climb the The Old Town Bridge Tower (No 8)and enjoy a nice view over the Carles Bridge and the banks of the Vltava up to the Castle
Enjoy the nice walk through the Charles Bridge (No 7) and take a look at the Lesser Town Bridge Tower (No 6).
At the Lesser Quarter visit the St. Nicholas Cathedral, the most representative Baroque construction in Prague (No 3) and the Church of our Lady Victorious (No 4), where is the Prague Infant Jesus.
Stop on the Nerudova street for some nice Czech specialty for lunch, accompanied by the tasty Chech beer,
Restart your itinerary with the way to the Prague Castle (No 1).
explore the Prague Castle grounds: St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George Basilica and the Golden Lane. In case you are a fan of galleries and museums, visit some of the exhibitions at the Castle. If you’d rather remain in the nature, head towards the Summer Garden (open until six o’clock in the evening). Have a walk through the nice park with a nice view of the Lesser Town on your left. The cupola of St. Nicholas cathedral will dominate your view.
In case you are already tired and you have booked tickets to the theatre or some evening concert, take the Old Castle stairs that will lead you to the Malostranska underground and tram station, or cross the bridge on foot and get back to your hotel to prepare for the evening. On your right you will have the Charles Bridge. At the end of the bridge you will see the Rudolfinum Concert Hall (No 9) and the oldest University in Central Europe, Charles University.
You are back at the Old Town Square (No 11).

2 days itinerary

The first day is the same as in the 1 day itinerary, on the second day you can start exploring more…
Taking in consideration you are on holiday and most likely you stayed out rather late the other night, I supposed the time of start for the second day trip rather later, say about 10-11am. Here are some things you shouldn’t miss:

Start at the Old Town Square and pay a visit to the Jewish Cemetery (Zidovsky Hribitov, No 10 on the map).
After visiting the Jewish Quarter, find your way through the Old Town Square and Celtna to Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske namesti). Follow the sings directing to Vaclavske namesti, Narodni Muzeum (National Museum).In case you are already hungry, stop for a beer and lunch at one of the many restaurants in the Old Town.
Have a walk through Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske namesti), dominated by the imposing site of the National Museum Main building.
From the top of Wenceslas Square take the underground 2 stations to Vysehrad
Vysehrad – follow the signs that will lead you first to St Martin Rotunda, then have a walk through the old
Fortresses walls that will lead you to Slavin cemetery and Sts Peter and Paul Church. On the right side of the church you will have a nice view over Prague and the newly reopened areal from where you can see Libuse’s baths.
Stop for a beer break and a snack at the beer terrace at Vysehrad
Go along the tram lines towards Karlovo Namesti, on your way you will see the Emauzy, and from Charles Square (Karlovo namesti) go towards the Vltava river. You will pass by the Church Cyril and Methodej and at the bank of Vltava you will see the Dancing House.
Walk along the Vltava bank and head towards the Charles Bridge. You will have a nice view of the Castle and the river.
For the evening you can choose from a concert, a dinner in a chic restaurant, hanging out in a pub or just walk around the nicely lighted centre of the city.

3 days itinerary

Contiunue from where we are left in the 2 days itinerary.

Start at the National Theatre (No 19) and walk across the Legions bridge towards Ujezd
Stop a minute at the Memorial for the Victims of Communism and walk to the funicular
Take the funicular to Petrin Hill, take a look at the nice park: walk through the rose park, towards the Mirror Labyrinth (Bludiste). Have some nice time in the funny reflections of yourself in the Mirror Room.
Climb up the Observation Tower and enjoy a fabulous view of Prague, with the bank of Vltava, the Castle and Hradcany, the Lesser Quarter and the Charles Bridge.
Walk to the Prague Castle. On your way you will pass by the Strahov Monastery and you will have a picturesque view of Petrin park and old Prague
From the Strahov Monastery you will see the signs leading to Loreta Monastery. If interested in Churches in Baroque, it’s worth to pay it a visit. From there you can head towards the Prague Castle.
If already tired, you could take a tram back to the centre (station “Prazsky Hrad” anebo “Pohorelec”), if not continue the itinerary:
Stop before the main entrance at the Prague Castle and enjoy another fabulous view of Prague, this time from another side
Explore the Pargue Castle grounds: St. Vitus Cathedral, the Golden Lane and head towards the Summer Garden (open until six o’clock in the evening). Have a walk through the nice park with a nice view of the Lesser Town on your left. Your view will be diminated by the red roofs of the Lesser Town and the cupola of St. Nicholas cathedral
Climb down the Prague Castle stairs that will lead you to Nerudova Street
Follow the signs (or the crowd) to the Charles Bridge
and your tour with a nice dinner at one of the many pubs/restaurants in the center. For a few extra crowns you could also spend a nice time dinning at the terraces just opposite the well-known Astronomical Clock in the Old Town Square. Map numbers mean:
