Czech Republic: Immigration Bulletin – New Health Insurance Requirements for Third Country Citizens
Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that effective from January 1st 2010 diplomatic posts as well as foreign police will request insurance certificates, in case of applications for long term visas and residence permits, issued by identified 21 insurance companies. Insurance will be required long term visa pick up, registration and extension.
Move One was informed by the representative of the Foreign Police that some of the diplomatic missions as well as inspectors will still accept insurance certificates from other providers and will do so till the end of February, although will start following strictly new requirement from March 1st, 2010. This decision may be though at the discretion of authorities representatives, therefore Move One recommends to adjust assignment policies to include insurance coverage provided by one of the listed companies in cases where foreigners are not covered by Czech Republic social security insurance.
The new health insurance requirements apply also to all applications pending approval and to all foreign nationals currently living in the Czech Republic on a Type D visa or residence permit. The Czech Foreign Police advised that all such foreign nationals must obtain health insurance with a registered company by the end of March 2010.
